Chili Cheese Ball

As I read through these vintage cookbooks, it became definitively clear that these women could craft magic from a package of cream cheese or a box of Jello. This post is my Ode to Cream Cheese {Jello ode forthcoming}.

Consider the chili cheese ball an American spin on Boursin. It is a lovely addition to happy hour or a barbecue spread. With only a few everyday ingredients, this appetizer comes together straightaway. Cheese ball, anyone?

THE RECIPE {VERBATIM}
  • 2 (3 ounce) packages cream cheese
  • 1 cup ground pecans
  • 1 clove garlic (finely minced)
  • 1 tablespoon steak sauce

Blend all ingredients well. Shape into a ball. Roll in 1 ½ tablespoons chili powder. Chill. Serve with corn chips.

CREATIVE LICENSE
  • Used 8 ounces cream cheese, softened. No sense in saving 2 ounces cream cheese.
  • Sliced 2 stalks green onion and added to cheese mixture.
  • Added an array of vegetables to the offerings. Expels any guilt brought on by the corn chips.

THIS RECIPE IS A MEMBER OF THE ADEN COLLECTION OF VINTAGE RECIPES.
