5 Tips for Toasting Spices


  1. Toasting amplifies the aroma and flavor of spices.
  2. Spices particularly fond of a little heat are coriander, curry powder, fennel seeds and mustard seeds.
  3. Add spices to a warm skillet. Medium low to medium heat is the proper setting.
  4. Use your smeller. Once the contents become cordially fragrant {not burnt}, transfer spices to another dish to cool.
  5. Release the flavor further yet by grinding the toasted spices in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
